BNP’s mayor candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Ishraque Hossain on Friday met US Embassy’s political counsellor Brent Christensen ahead of the day of the City Corporation election in Dhaka.
He did it in order to apprise the diplomat his view about the latest election situation.
Ishraque held the meeting with the US Embassy official at a restaurant in Gulshan’s Bay Tower at afternoon.
Earlier in the morning, Brent Christensen also had a meeting with Awami League’s DSCC mayor candidate Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
Ishraque said, “It was a scheduled meeting as Brent Christensen had meetings
with other candidates. He met my rival Awami League candidate in the morning.”
The BNP’s mayor candidate said, “Brent Christensen wanted to know from him about the overall election atmosphere. He also wanted to know our worries. I told him our reservations about the EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines).”
“I also informed him about the ruling party’s efforts to occupy polling stations by hiring their party cadres from outside Dhaka,” said Ishraque.
He said also, “The ruling party’s terrorists are being gathered in Dhaka from different districts to grab polling centres on Saturday and we have discussed the matter with a representative of the US Embassy.”
Mentioning that there are some 350 to 400 risky vote centres in the capital, he said “The activists and workers of the symbol of ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ will guard those centers. The centers will be freed at any cost, if those are occupied.”
