Tamim’s ton powers Bangladesh to pile up 279/8

A splendid century by dashing opener Tamim Iqbal powered Bangladesh to pile up 279 for the loss of eight wickets against Afghanistan in the third and final One Day International (ODI) match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday.
Tamim Iqbal hit a run-a-ball 118 including 11 boundaries and two over boundaries. He fulfilled his seventh ODI century using 110 balls.
Bangladesh had a shaky start as opener Soumya Sarkar (11) was caught behind my wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad off Mirwais Ashraf when Bangladesh’s total was 23 for the loss of one wicket.
Then Tamim Iqbal and Sabbir Rahman rescued their team from early debacle contributing together 140 runs in the second wicket stand before Sabbir Rahman was caught at the short third-man by Nawroz Mangal off Rahmat Shah when the Tigers’ score was 163 for the loss of two wickets.
Sabbir Rahman notched up a worthy 65. His 79-ball knock was ornamented with six fours and three sixes. It was Sabbir Rahman’s third ODI half century.
Fourth-down Mahmudullah Riyad remained unbeaten with 32. He hit four fours in his 22-ball innings.
After dismissal of Sabbir Rahman, Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan added together 49 runs for the third wicket partnership before Tamim Iqbal was caught at the long-off by substitute Naveen-ul-Haq off Mohammad Nabi when the hosts’ score was 212 for the loss of three wickets.
Then Shakib Al Hasan (17) was caught behind by Mohammad Shahzad off Dawlat Zadran when the home sides’ score was 226 for the loss of four wickets.
After departure of Shakib, Mushfiqur Rahim (12) returned to the pavilion as he was trapped leg before wicket by Rashid Khan when Bangladesh’s total was 230 for the loss of five wickets.
Then Mosaddek Hossain (4) was stumped out by wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad off Rashid Khan when Bangladesh’s score was 235 for the loss of six wickets.
After departure of Mosaddek, Mosharraf Hossain (4) was caught at the long-on by Najibullah Zadran off Mohammad Nabi when the hosts’ total was 248 for the loss of seven wickets.
Then Mahmudullah Riyad and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza put on together 22 runs in the eighth wicket stand before Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (2) was caught at the short fine leg by Nawroz Mangal off Mirwais Ashraf when Bangladesh’s score was 270 for the loss of eight wickets.
Shaful Islam remained unbeaten with two runs.
