Opener Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah hits a brilliant fifty saw Bangladesh finished their first day with a comfortable 193 for 3 in 90 overs at stumps against Zimbabwe in the second Test of Bashundhara Cement three-match Test Series held on Monday at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.
Batting first after winning the important toss, Bangladesh lost their opener Shamsur Rahman early in the innings but Tamim Iqbal paired with first down Mominul Haque contributed 72 runs for the second wicket stand.
The promising batsman Mominul was caught and bowled by Panyangara at a moment when it seemed that Bangladesh had steadied the innings after the early fall of opener Shamsur. He added an useful 35 runs off 101 ball with the help of five boundaries.
Panyangara dug it short to Mominul who tried to fend off the delivery rather uncomfortably before falling prey to the diving bowler.
But Tamim was seemed positive on the wicket as he again paired another 95 runs partnership with second down Mahmudullah for the third wickets stand to take Bangladesh to a strong position.
The all rounder Mahmudullah put up another patient half-century before caught leg before to Panyangara delivery.
He along with Tamim Iqbal were apparently playing with ease working hard and patient to put Bangladesh on strong foundation set for a big total.
Mahmudullah scored his 56 runs off 152-ball hitting five boundaries.
Tamim and all rounder Shakib Al Hasan were remained unbeaten with 74 and 13 runs as the stumps were drawn for the day. Tamim smashed six boundaries during his 250-ball knock.
The resolve and patience of Bangladeshi batsmen have often been under question in the past. The batsmen seemed determined to prove a point today in this regard.
Zimbabwean Seamer Elton Chigumbura trapped Shamsur lbw and sent him back to pavilion on the eighth over of the match for only 2 runs.
Tinashe Panyangara was the pick of Zimbabwe bowler taking two wickets for 29 runs. He was well supported by Elton Chigumbura who took one wicket giving away 32 runs.
