Openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes made a new world record in Test cricket when they contributed together 312 runs for the opening partnership in the second innings in the first Test against Pakistan at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Saturday.Tamim pairing Imrul Kayes made a world record in the opening partnership in the 2nd innings to suppress English batsmen Colin Cowdrey and Geoff Puller’s 55-year-old record of the highest opening stand of 290 runs against South Africa in the third innings of a Test (England’s second) at Oval in 1960.
Tamim and Kayes also built together the highest partnership record against Pakistan.
Earlier, Andy Flower and Godwin of Zimbabwe scored 277 runs in the unbroken fifth wicket stand against Pakistan in the second innings at Bulawayo on 1998.
Besides, Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes put on together the highest score in any partnership for Bangladesh in Test cricket. Earlier, Mohammad Ashraful and Mushfiqur Rahim added 267 runs in their partnership.
Tamim Iqbal is now the highest scorer of Bangladesh. He notched up 206 from 278 balls. He hit 17 fours and seven sixes staying 448 minutes at the crease. It was his maiden double century in Test cricket. Imrul Kayes hit 150 off 240 balls including 16 fours and three sixes.
Earlier, Captain of Bangladesh Test team Mushfiqur Rahim made exact 200 against Sri Lanka at Galle in 2013. It was the highest individual score for a Bangladesh batsman.
