Tamaddun Majlish, a cultural organisation which led a pioneering role in the Language Movement is going to give awards this year on the occasion of Ekushey to five distinguished personalities of Bangladesh for their outstanding contribution in different spheres to the progress and development of the country. The awards will be given to Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia (posthumous, Journalism) Dr. Golam Maqsud Hilali (posthumous, Research in Bengali language), Dr Ashraf Siddiqi, (Literature), Abdur Razzaque Sanyamat (posthumous, Language Movement), and Principal Mohammad Hosein Khan (posthumous, Language Movement).
In this occasion, a discussion meeting on ‘The historical background of Language Movement and its significance’ will be held in the National Press Club Hallroom on February 21 at 4:00pm.
Professor Emajuddin Ahmad, former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University will be present as chief guest, while Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, former minister, and Barrister Mainul Hosein, former advisor to the Caretaker government will be present as special guests on the occasion.
The meeting will be presided over by Prof. M. A. Samad. Language veterans Prof Abdul Ghafur and Rowshan Ara Bachchu, and Poet Al Muzahidy, Abdul Awal Thakur, Advocate Abdul Mobin and Fahmidur Rahman will take part in the discussion.
