Talent hunt competition begins

Nationwide creative talent hunt competition 2014 started on Thursday.
On this occasion, a colorful rally was brought out from Curzon Hall of Dhaka University.
Led by Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, the rally ended at the Central Shaheed Minar where former Caretaker Government Adviser Rasheda K. Chowdhury, Dhaka University Professor Aktaruzzaman, Education Secretary-in-Charge M Sohrab Hossain and Additional Secretary AS Mahmud addressed the students, said an official release.
The competition will be held at upazila, district, divisional and national levels.
The upazila level competition is taking place from May 8 to 10 where students from class six to 12 in schools, colleges, madrasas and technical educational institutions will take part in three groups – class six to eight, class nine to ten and 11 to 12.
The competition will be held in four subjects – language and literature, science, mathematics and computer.
The district level competition will be held from May 13 to 18 followed by divisional level competition from May 19 to 21. The competition in Dhaka city will be held from May 22 to 25.
Competition at the national level will be held from May 26 to 30. Addressing the rally at the Central Shaheed Minar, the education minister said Bangladesh might be lagging behind in economy, but not in merit.
There are many meritorious people in every nook and corner of the country, he said, adding that many of them cannot get the opportunity to come forward.
He said 11 of the 12 best meritorious students of last year’s talent hunt competition were from outside Dhaka.
More than seven lakh students took part in last year’s competition, he said and added that this competition will take place every year and help build a meritorious nation.
