Staff Reporter :Myanmar’s Border Guard Police [BGP] has set new conditions to free Abdur Razzak, the abducted Nayek of Border Guard Bangladesh [BGB]. As per their condition, Bangladesh at first should take back 555 ‘Bangladeshis’ who were rescued from the sea on the way to Malaysia a few days ago, official sources said on Monday.Earlier, the BGP had been showing reason that they could not repatriate BGB man Razzak for not getting green signal from the higher authority. Officials said, the BGP informed the Bangladesh authority about the new condition when BGB Teknaf Commander Lieutenant Colonel Abu Zar Al Zahid contacted Commander of BGP Battalion-2 Lieutenant Colonel Tin Ko Ko over telephone around 4:00pm yesterday. During the conversation, Lieutenant Colonel Ko Ko assured Lieutenant Colonel Zahid that they would return Razzak. However, a meeting in this regard would be arranged in Myanmar, the BGP official said.About the query of Lieutenant Colonel Zahid, the BGP official further said Bangladesh should first take back 555 migrants who were rescued from the sea. BGB Commander replied to Myanmar side that the rescued Bangladeshis and abducted Razzak cannot be the same issue. When asked whether the list of rescued migrants has been sent to Bangladesh, Lieutenant Colonel Ko Ko replied affirmative. In this backdrop, Lieutenant Colonel Zahid told the BGP official that the list would be sent to concerned ministry if it is received. And the rescued migrants would be brought back, if the concerned ministry approves. But at first you [BGP] must send back Razzak, Lieutenant Colonel Zahid said. We will contact you tomorrow [Tuesday], Lieutenant Colonel Ko Ko said. Meanwhile, the BGP, on its facebook page, uploaded pictures of the detained BGB soldier Razzak in handcuffs. The facebook pictures show Razzak bleeding from his nose. In another one, Razzak is seen standing behind his firearms like “a criminal”.When contacted, Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Munim, Additional Secretary of the Home Ministry, told The New Nation last night, “We are trying hard to sit in a meeting with the Myanmar side. But they are not responding at all.” “However, the concerned ministries, including foreign and home, will sit in a meeting on Tuesday [today] to fix the strategy to tackle the situation,” he said.On June 17, BGB soldier Bilpob was injured and Nayek Razzak was abducted when BGP men initiated a gun battle at Jamudira Point of the Naf River in Teknaf Upazila in Cox’s Bazar. The shootout took place while BGB personnel were patrolling on a trawler.According to BGB Headquarters, a six-member BGB team led by Nayek Abdur Razzak was patrolling on the Naf River. The BGB men were searching two boats suspecting carrying smuggled drugs. At that time, BGP members of Roigahtong Camp came there boarding a trawler and stopped beside the BGB patrol boat. They picked up Nayek Razzak forcibly when BGP was asked to leave their trawler inside Bangladesh territory. Both side exchanged fire when BGB personnel resisted the BGP.”The shooting broke out with the BGP when the BGB patrol was searching a trawler following a tip-off regarding Yaba smuggling,” the force’s Chittagong South-East Region Director Lieutenant Colonel Md Ekram said.
