BSS, Chattogram :
Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Isalm became the fastest to the mark of 100 Test wickets for the country, eclipsing Shakib Al Hasan during the first day of the one-off Test against Afghanistan at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here on Thursday.
He reached the feat in just 25 Test in contrast of Shakib’s 28.
As Bangladesh struggled to get the breakthrough, Taijul who opened the bowling with new ball, got the wicket of opener Ihsanullah Janat with a googly, a delivery that flummoxed the batsman completely.
The left-arm spinner is the only third Bangladesh batsman to reach the feat after Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Rafique. Coincidentally all three are the left-arm spinner, which is a unique.
No country so far got the first three bowlers who reached the 100-wicket feat was left-arm spinner.
Mohammad Rafique was the first Bangladeshi bowler to reach such milestone achieved the feat in his 33rd Test match.
Ahead of the Test, Taijul however said that he focused on just getting as many wickets as it is possible, not the record.
“I don’t think these things too much,” he said some days ago. “When I get into the field, I try to bag five wickets, six wickets. I don’t play for one wicket. I always think to help the Bangladesh team,” he said.
However as it is predicted, Bangladesh was playing with four-pronged spin attack, with no pacer in their only Test against Afghanistan.
