A member of Ansar’s taekwondo team was found dead in a house at Basila of the capital on Thursday night.
The deceased Kamrul Islam, 24, a contractual player of the Bangladesh General Ansar Taekwondo National Team and teacher of the Taekwondo Branch School next to the Mohammadpur Shia Mosque.
Police detained Pratibha Sarkar, who brought him dead to Dhaka Medial College Hospital (DMCH) from her house at Basila.
DMCH outpost in-charge inspector Bacchu Mia said, as the death appears suspicious, we have
detained Pratibha Sarker, an official of the club where Kamrul was a taekwondo trainer. The body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
Hazaribagh police’s Sub-Inspector Joynal Abedin said they have detained the official for interrogation.
Police are investigating whether it is a case of murder or suicide, he added.
Pratibha told the hospital official that Kamrul used to live at the Garam Panir Gali of Dhaka’s Fakirapul area. He went to her house on Thursday and stayed there at night. Later, she saw Kamrul hanging from ceiling fan and rushed him to DMCH.
Kamrul told her that he would eat beef at her home. Then Kamrul went to her house and bought beef from the market. After taking supper, he went to the next room to sleep, she claimed.
The victim’s brother Ahmed Al Mamun said that they find no reason of suicide.
Kamrul’s friends claimed that he had an affair with Pratibha and they might have a quarrel at night which led to the death.
Pratibha, however, claimed she considered Kamrul as her younger brother as he was junior to her.
The federation and family said two days ago, Kamrul took a five-day leave to go to his home in Chattogram’s Karnafuli. But he didn’t go there, rather he went to his colleague’s house at Mohammadpur.
