T-Aman paddy cultivation begins in Narsingdi, Narail

The cultivation of T-Aman paddy has begun in all the six upazilas of the district during the current season.
Due to a favorable climate condition and sufficient rain falls, farmers of the district are now working round the clock in their paddy fields for transplanting T-Aman seedlings.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources, a total of 40,511 hectares of land would be brought under T-Aman paddy cultivation (BRRI-11, 22, 30, 32, 34, 39, 49 and BINNA-7 verities) in the district this season.
Of the total 31,010 hectares of land would be brought under High Yielding Variety (HYV) of the paddy and 9,501 hectares are under local variety.Deputy director of DAE Latapat Hossain told BSS that farmers of the
district in the meantime have already transplanted seedlings on about 10 percent of the total targeted land.
He said Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) has so far distributed 380 tonnes of seeds among the farmers and there is no shortage of T-Aman seedlings in the district.
The DAE official expressed the hope that cultivation of T-Aman might exceed the target fixed by the department in the current season.
BSS from Narail adds: The enthusiastic farmers have started transplanting T-Aman (Transplanted Aman) seedlings in full-swing everywhere in three upazilas under Narail district amid favourable climate and sufficient rainfalls.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said, plantation of T-Aman seedling is going on successfully and the fixed target is expected to be achieved within the permissible time.
Deputy Director of DAE Sheikh Aminul Haque told BSS that the favourable prevailing weather is helping the farmers in transplanting of T-Aman seedlings during the current season.
The district DAE office has brought a total of 30,895 hectares of land under T-Aman cultivation with the production target of 80,338 tonnes of paddy.
Of the total land, 14,365 hectares of land brought under T-Aman cultivation in sadar upazila with production target of 38,517 tonnes of paddy, 8,870 hectares of land in Kalia upazila with 21,453 tonnes of paddy and 7,660 hectares of land in Lohagora upazila with production target 21,453 tonnes of paddy.
DAE district training officer Nazrul Islam said the farmers hope for a better yield from T-Aman cultivation, as the cultivation of T-Aman paddy requires less cost compared to other crops because rainwater comes as the bounty of nature.
The farmers are transplanting BIRI-28, 11, 34, 56 and 58 verities of T-Aman seedlings in the district, he said.
Farmers Saifur Rahman of Kumri village in Lohagora upazila told BSS that they are not facing any problem in planting of T-Aman seedlings as they experience sufficient seasonal rainfall.
