A freight train derailed, blocking the tracks, in Srimangal upazila of Moulvibazar on Saturday.
Seven tanker wagons of the Sylhet-bound train-carrying oil from Chattogram-derailed and overturned near Satgaon Rail Station around 11:40am, said Sakhawat Hossain, assistant station master of Srimangal Railway Station.
A hydraulic tool van from Kulaura reached the spot and rescue work has started, he said.
Train communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country has been halted since morning due to the derailment.
People were seen collecting oil as huge amounts of fuel oil have fallen from the wreckage of the wagons.
