Digital Sylhet City Project initiated by Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) turned Sylhet into a smart city, said State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak.
He said, “Modern and trustworthy smart security system will play an important role to make a smart city and will ensure the security of people. We are now implementing the smart security systems that are being used in the developed countries presently.’
State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak made the remarks after observing the advancement of the project recently.
Bangladesh Computer Council and Sylhet Metropolitan Police regarding this project signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard. Huawei Technologies, the main solution provider in this project, has been demonstrated the special and artificial intelligence features of the robust technologies.
In the MoU signing ceremony, Zunaid Ahmed Palak was present as the chief guest. Executive Director of BCC Parthapratim Deb, Project Director of a2i Md Mustafizur Rahman, Project Director of Digital Sylhet City Project Mohammad Mohidur Rahman Khan, Deputy Project Director of Digital Sylhet City Project Madho Sudun Chanda, Additional Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police and other officials of main solution provider of Huawei technologies were also present, among others.
Under this project for the first time in the country, face recognition and automatic number-plate recognition (ANPR) cameras are being installed in Sylhet City Corporation. A monitoring room has been constructed at Kotowali Model Police Station in Sylhet to control these special IP cameras. Sylhet Metropolitan Police will be in charge of controlling this latest security system. This robust technology will help police to identify the identification of suspected persons and vehicles to enrich the efficiency of their investigation, which would help to remove the prevailing feelings of insecurity.
Additionally, a free Wi-Fi zone will be constructed very soon under this project at 62 locations in Sylhet with a total of 126 access points. This system will later be operated through Sylhet City Corporation. A separate Memorandum of Understanding signed between Bangladesh Computer Council and Sylhet City Corporation.
After signing ceremony, the State Minister for ICT Division visited Kotwali Police Station to observe the project progress of this artificial intelligence based IP cameras. The Minister said, “At this moment, we are ensuring the same services to our people which is being provided by the developed countries governments’ though their per capita income is much higher than us’.
He further said that ‘Now security guard by gun or pistol is not only the options to ensure the safety of public. We should implement monitoring cameras containing such kind of artificial intelligence in every important roads, highways and places to facilitate 24 x7 scanning from monitoring centers for ensuring the safety. Sylhet city will be built as a model town under this project. I am very pleased at the advancement of this project’.
