Sylhet Bureau :
When the pandemic of coronavirus is rampant in Sylhet, people across the district are also fearing outbreak of dengue. Although no dengue patients have been identified in Sylhet so far, the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) has already found Aedes mosquito larvae in five places in the city.
According to SCC sources, the incidence of dengue is increasing in different parts of the country including Dhaka. In this situation, raids have been carried out in three wards of the city in search of Aedes larvae. The larvae did not match in wards 13 and 17. However, larvae of Aedes were found in five places in a ward.
SCC Chief Health Officer Md. Jahidul Islam Sumon confirmed the matter and said “We are wary of Aedes,” he said. During our expedition, we found Aedes larvae in the tire water in front of a sanitary shop in South Surma and in front of a tire-tube shop. They have been destroyed. At the same time, the shopkeepers have been warned to take care of cleanliness. If they find larvae there again, they will be fined. ‘
Jahidul Islam said, ‘So far no dengue patient has been found in Sylhet. But people from different parts of the country including Dhaka are coming to their homes in Sylhet for Eid. If one of them is infected with dengue, and if the Aedes mosquito bites them, the danger may increase. The mosquito can transmit dengue to others. ‘
Aedes mosquitoes breed mainly in water bodies. Therefore, experts say to pay attention to keep the place where water accumulates around your home, house and shop clean.
Meanwhile, health official Zahid said the city corporation did not have a shortage of mosquito repellent. “There is enough medicine,” he said. If the rain subsides a little after Eid, we will go down to the field. Now when the medicine is sprayed, the rain washes away. But now we will continue the fogging. ‘
