Speedboat capsize 5 bodies recovered in Patuakhali

Coast Guard personnel on Saturday recovered bodies of five people who went missing after a speedboat capsized in the Agunmukha River in Patuakhali on Thursday amid inclement weather.
The deceased were identified as Rangabali police Constable Md Mohibullah, Bangladesh Krishi Bank Baherchar Branch in-charge Md Mostafizur Rahman,Asha Bank Khalgora Branch Officer Kabir Hossain, day labourers Md Imran and Md Hasan Mia.
Confirming the matter, Rangabali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ali Ahmed on Saturday said: “We will hand over the dead bodies without post mortem as per the wish of their families.”
The speedboat named Rumen-1 left Koralia for Panpatti with 18 passengers in this inclement weather, ignoring the warning signal No 2 at the river port and warning signal No 3 at the seaport.
The speedboat was then overturned by the waves of Agunmukha River and the passengers fell into the river.
The accident took place at 5pm on Thursday in Agunmukha River of Rangabali upazila in the district.
Thirteen people, including the driver, swam ashore or were rescued with the help of locals. The remaining five people had been missing.
However, the passengers were not given any life jackets.
