10th grader raped in Sylhet

A tenth grader was raped by a youth at Kurar Bazar in Beanibazar Upazila in Sylhet recently. Victim’s elder sister said, Mizan, 23, entered their house and violated her sister, 14, when she was alone there. They found her bleeding and took her to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for treatment. Aboni Shankar Kar, officer-in-charge of Beanibazar Police Station, said legal action would be taken once they received a complaint.
Teenage rickshaw-puller killed
A teenage rickshaw-puller has been killed in Daldali Tea Garden area of Sylhet Sadar recently, police said. The law enforcers arrested two persons in connection with the murder. Deceased Naim Ahmed, 15, was son of Abbas Ahmed of Beanibazar upazila in Sylhet and a resident of Hazaribag area in the city. ‘Naim was missing since on yesterday and his father filed a general diary with the local police station last night,’ said Shahadat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sylhet Airport Police Station. The two arrestees — Abdur Rukon, 21, and Parvez, 20, confessed to the crime, the police official said. On the basis of their information, police recovered the body from the tea garden recently.
SUST to join unified admission test
The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet has decided to join the proposed combined entry test system to reduce the suffering of the admission seekers. Vice-Chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed said that the decision was taken at the 156th academic council of the university recently. It will be effective from the 2020-21 session. This year’s entry test will follow the normal procedure, he said.
Jalalabad Association active to save historic building
Jalalabad Association, a platform of Sylheti people living in Dhaka, called upon the government to build Sylhet District Hospital in another place instead of the venue of a historic building. The building must be preserved as a heritage site, said leaders of the association.
A delegation of Jalalabad Association recently visited the venue of historic building ‘Abu Sina Hostel’ in Sylhet city in a bid to protect it from demolition.  
Led by president of the association and former secretary Dr AK Abdul Mobin, the members of the delegation include former president CM Tofayel Sami, president of Jalalabad Heritage Preservation Committee and former secretary Sohel Ahmed Chowdhury, Vice President of Jalalabad Association Qaiyyum Chowdhury, treasurer Emam Mehedi Chowdhury Enam and joint secretary Fahima Chowdhury Moni.  
The leaders of the platform also joined a seminar held at Kendriyo Muslim Sahitya Sangsad in Sylhet city. Adviser to the former caretaker government Advocate Sultana Kamal and others spoke at the seminar. Speakers of the seminar said that the historic building of Abu Sina Hospital must be save from demolition.
