Sylhet flood victims get cash, relief materials

The government has distributed a total of 1,686 metric tonnes of rice and Tk 1.857 million among the flood affected people in two districts of Sylhet region.
According to the district administrations of Sylhet and Moulvibazar, a total of 275 metric tonnes of rice and Tk 0.480 million were distributed among flood victims in Sylhet district while 1,435 metric tonnes of rice and Tk 1.477 million in Moulvibazar district.
Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Numeri Zaman said adequate relief materials were sent to the upazila administrations of the district asking to distribute those among the flood victims.
If necessary, he said, the allocation of relief materials would be increased further.
Deputy Commissioner of Moulvibazar Tofael Islam briefed the media.’A total of 1,435 metric tonnes of rice and Tk 1.477 million have been allocated for the flood-hit people in Moulvibazar. Of the total allocation, we have already distributed 1,367 metric tonnes of rice and Tk 1.477 million among the flood affected people. The remaining 68 metric tonnes of rice will be distributed soon.’
The overall flood situation in Moulvibazar district improved further as the water levels of the Manu and Dhalai rivers remain in falling trend, he said.
However, the people have returned to their homes as the water receded from Moulvibazar municipality, Kulaura, Kamalganj, Rajnagar and Sadar upazila areas, the DC said.
Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya visited the flood-hit areas and assured the flood victims of continuing relief operation for them until the flood situation is improved.
He asked the civil surgeons and upazila healthcare centres to keep medicine reserved to avert the outbreak of diseases after the flood there.
Over 150,000 and 200,000 people were affected by flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall in Sylhet and Moulvibazar districts this year.
