For the fourth time, young industrial entrepreneur AKM Ataul Karim has become the best taxpayer of Sylhet division (2020-21). His name was recently announced by the National Board of Revenue (NBR). The divisional level award will be officially handed over to him on Wednesday .Earlier, in 2019-20, 2018-19 and 2018-17, he was similarly given the status of the best taxpayer at the Sylhet divisional level. Similarly, in 2016 and 2017, the National Board of Revenue issued 141 tax cards to various individuals and organizations as the best taxpayers in the country. One of them was AKM Ataul Karim from Sylhet. Abu Bakar Merchant, a resident of Fazilchist area of Subidbazar of Sylhet city and Motwalli of Sylhet Central Jame Mosque, a prominent businessman on the banks of Laldighi, and social worker.
AKM Ataul Karim, the only son of Jahanara Bakar, is the captain of the country’s top ABM Water Company.
He also runs an environmental engineering business, a Rainharvest project, a sewage treatment plant and a container handling business. Through his ABM Water Company, treatment plants have been successfully set up at submarines of Bangladesh, Pigeon Deep Seaport, Mirsarai of Chittagong, the largest economic zone of Bangladesh and Banauja Ishakha base of Chittagong Navy. Recently, water treatment plants have been set up in Rohingya camps and waste disposal plants have been set up in all the sugar mills in Bangladesh. Similarly, he has set up Kakrabazar City Water Treatment Plant and Teknaf City Water Treatment Plant.
Meainwhile, ABM Group has gained a reputation by setting up water treatment plants at important places in the country since its inception. At present ABM Group has more than 600 employees working in different organizations. The annual turnover of the company is 296 crore rupees.
