Sylhet Bureau :
English medium schools of Sylhet city are not following the direction of High Court that debarred those privately run schools from realizing excess fees. Rather, these schools have relentlessly been violating High Court direction.
District administration has given a call for a meeting on Thursday to submit the income and expenditure of Ananda Niketon, Rise School, British Bangladesh International School and Grammar School in Sylhet City.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Abu Safayat Muhammad Shahedul Islam promulgated this government order on 3rd September (Tuesday). In this meeting discussion on reducing educational expenditure and force those schools refrain from collecting illegally huge money in guise of fee.
Guardians of the students of those schools hope that the extra fee will be directed to the aggrieved guardians by the those schools. In this way the fortune of the suffering students will be over. Guardians also expect for the sake of education and people’s interest A.D.C Abu Safayat Muhammad Shahedul Islam will make an example in investigating the matter.
It has been learnt that two writ petitions were field to the High Court Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court 2- judges bench comprising Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Md Badrujjaman delivered a verdict on 25th May 2017 declaring readmission fees, session fee, academic fee and other in any name from play group to A level students null and void. But the English Medium Schools of Sylhet have been violating the court verdict and collecting excess fee illegally.
The Honourable High Court in its verdict said according to Non-Government School Registration Ordinance, 1962 and Non-Government (English Medium) School Registration Rule, 2007, the School shall have a Managing Committee and Guardian Representatives shall be included there. But the English Medium Schools of Sylhet don’t implement this regulation.
So the guardians of thousands of students of Ananda Niketon School, Rise School, BBIS and Grammar School of Sylhet City have been aggrieved and frustrated as the High Court verdict is not obeyed by those English medium Schools authorities . The Students of English Medium schools complained the above mentioned schools have been realizing excess fee which is clearly the contempt of court. Even they do not include guardians representative in guise of guest committee. Informing such type of irregularity in English medium schools, District Education Officers of Sylhet Guljar Ahmed Khan ordered those schools authorities to abide by the honourable High Court and comply (Memo no- 37.02.9100.000.00.000.181.44 dated 8th July, 2018) but these Schools have been realizing excess fees whimsically.
