The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested Deputy Inspector General, Prisons of Sylhet Central Jail Partha Gopal Banik on charges of graft, bribery and irregularities.
The anti-graft watchdog made the arrest after seizure of Tk 80 lakh in cash
during a raid at his home on Bhuter Goli lane at Dhanmondi in Dhaka on Sunday.
He earned the money through bribery, corruption and irregularities, said the ACC Spokesman Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.
Partha Gopal, the former Deputy DIG (Prisons) Chattogram Division, and Prashanta Kumar Banik, Senior Jail Super of Barishal Jail who also served as Senior Jail Super of Chattogram Central jail, were interrogated at the ACC Head office at 10:00am and 12.20 pm respectively, he said.
Earlier in the day, Partha Gopal appeared in the ACC’s Segunbagicha office as he was summoned on sunday over graft allegations.
Partha Gopal allegedly committed corruption and irregularities, while he was serving as DIG (prisons) of Chattogram Range earlier.
ACC Director Mohammad Yousuf quizzed Partha Gopal for few hours starting from 10:00am, ACC official sources said. Later, the ACC team launched the drive at his Dhaka residence and detained him after recovering the money, the ACC official said
