Sylhet BNP’s internal feud deepens

On November 8, the BNP central committee announced a convening committee consisting of 33 members for the city unit.
With the formation of a new convening committee, the internal feud in Sylhet city unit of BNP has been intensified between the two factions of the party. Followers of the party’s Vice Chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury and the leaders and activists loyal to missing BNP leader M Ilyas Ali have recently taken face-to-face position.
On November 8, the BNP central committee announced a convening committee consisting of 33 members for the city unit. Dr Shahriar Hossain Choudhury and Badruzzaman Selim were made the convenor and member secretary of the committee respectively.
Talking to journalists many leaders and activists loyal to Ilyas alleged that most of the members of the newly formed committee are the followers of Shamsher Mobin. Since the announcement of the committee, they are staging demonstrations demanding that the committee be scraped soon.
They declared Shamsher Mobin ‘persona non grata’ in the city. They are also trying to resist all of his political activities.
On Friday evening, the aggrieved BNP leaders tried to attack the motorcade of Shamsher Mobin in Tukerbazar Temuky area when he was going to attend a party programme in Sunatola area.
