Syed Ashraf’s mural vandalzed in Kishoreganj

Miscreants vandalized the mural of late Syed Ashraful Islam, former general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League and Minister of LGRD and Public Administration on Thursday night at Syed Nazrul Islam Square in the town, On information, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohamad Shamim Alam, Police Super (SP) Mashrukur Rahman Khaled BPM (Bar) Mayor Pervez Miah, Sadar UNO Abdul Kadir Miah, and agencies officials visiting the spot.
The mural was installed with the funding of Kishoreganj Municipality on November 30, 2020 and Mayor Parvez Mia inaugurated.
Kishoreganj Municipality has filed a case with Kishoreganj Model Sadar Police Station under the Special Powers Act.
Kishoreganj SP Mashrukur Rahman Khaled BPM (Bar) told the New Nation that the matter of who was involved in the vandalism. SP also assured that the culprits would be identified and brought under the law soon.
Mayor Pervez Miah said those who tried to break the mural of Syed Ashraf should be found out. There is no language to condemn such misdeeds.
There has been a storm of condemnation in this incident. Leaders and activists of Political and Socio-Cultural organizations and General People have reacted strongly to the incident and demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the culprits.
Police also arrested one youth named Pervez (30) from his Sholakia (Banani more) residence, Sadar OC Abu Bakar Siddiqui, PPM added.
