Defending champions Sydney FC returned to the top of Australia’s A-League and ended the Newcastle Jets’ unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 win this weekend.
Serbian midfielder Milos Ninkovic and Brazilian striker Bobo scored for the Sky Blues before Dimi Petratos pulled one back for the Jets with a late long-range effort.
One-time leaders Melbourne City lost again, this time 3-1 to Brisbane Roar with Greek defender Avraam Papadopoulos scoring a double.
The Roar climbed off the bottom of the standings on the back of City’s defensive errors.
Frenchman Eric Bautheac scored the Roar’s other goal just two minutes from the break.
