A Spain based Switzerland Company is set to supply 70 locomotives for Bangladesh Railway (BR) with own financing at a highly competitive rate, according to a joint statement from the Embassy of Switzerland and the Embassy of Spain on Tuesday.
The Spain based Swiss company Stadler Rail Valencia SAU was selected as preferred bidder by the Ministry of Railways in a tender process for supplying 70 locomotives to BR, the statement said.
Switzerland Ambassador Christian Fotsch and Spain Ambassador to Bangladesh Eduardo de Laiglesia y del Rosal jointly paid a call on Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith and apprised about the important project of the BR.
One of the important elements of the project is technology transfer and the Stadler Rail would manufacture 30 locomotives in Spain and 40 locomotives would be partially manufactured in Bangladesh.
The supplier company would also arrange 100 percent financing of the project at a highly competitive rate.
The development of railway sector is one of the priorities of the current government. The project would contribute immensely towards the desired goal.
