Swimming competition held in Rangpur

On the occasion of Mujib Year a 10th class student of Bogra, swam from Teesta Barrage to Mahipur in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur in 5 hours 36 minutes and 28 seconds which is the longest swimming competition in the country.
On the occasion of Mujib Year, Rangpur district administration and district sports body organized ‘Mujib Year Sheikh Kamal Teesta Swimming-2021’ competition. Rangpur City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Ruhul Amin Mia inaugurated the function. The swim started from Teesta Barrage at 9:20 am on Saturday (September 11) and ended at the end of Sheikh Hasina II Teesta Road Bridge at Mahipur in Gangachara Upazila of Rangpur.
16 skilled swimmers from different districts of the country participated in this competition. Among them, Rabbi of Bogra became the first in the 48 km swim in 5 hours 36 minutes and 28 seconds. Saiful Islam Russell of Barguna came second with a time of 5 hours 50 minutes and 50 seconds and Mitu Akhter, a swimmer from Bogra came third with a time of 8 hours 1 minute 36 seconds.
It may be mentioned that Rabbi became the first out of 40 people to cross the Bengali channel in 2020 and Mitu Akhter, who became the third, crossed the Bengali channel as the first woman in Bangladesh.
Among the various programs organized by the Rangpur district administration on the occasion of Mujibvarsha, various sports competitions were one of them. In its continuation, ‘Mujibvarsh Sheikh Kamal Teesta (48 km) Swimming-2021’ was organized on Saturday.
Rangpur-1 MP Moshiur Rahman Ranga was present as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the swimming event. Deputy Commissioner Asib Ahsan presided over the function.
