Swechchhasebak League leader hurt in Badda shooting dies at hospital

A local Swechchhasebak League leader, who sustained bullet injuries in a gun attack in the city’s Madhya Badda area on Thursday, died at a hospital here on Friday, raising the death toll from the incident to three. Mahbubur Rahman Gama, cultural affairs secretary of Dhaka (north) city unit Swechchhasebak League, succumbed to his injuries around 9:30 am at the United Hospital in the city, said Abdul Jalil, officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station. Earlier, two people, including a local Awami League leader, were killed and two others injured in a gun attack in the city’s Madhya Badda area on Thursday night. The deceased were Shamsuzzaman Shamsu, AL ward-6 president of Maddhya Badda area and Manik, manager of a local hospital. The injured were Gama and Abdus Salam 45, senior vice-president of Badda union unit of Jubo League, the youth wing of Awami League. Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Muntashirul Islam said a group of miscreants opened fire on the four while they were chatting near the Water Tank at Adarsha Nagar around 9pm, leaving them injured. Three of the injured – Shamsu, Manik and Gama – were rushed to United Hospital at Gulshan where the former two succumbed to their injuries. Salam was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He was hit by a bullet in the left side of his chest. There is also a bullet mark on his back. The reason behind the gun attack could not be known. — Dhaka, Aug 14 (UNB)
