Natore Swechchasebak League leader Mir Nafiu Islam Antar was sent to jail in connection with assaulting a Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) engineer in Natore.
A virtual court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Tanzeem Alam Tabassum passed the order on Wednesday.
Arrestee Antar was the of general secretary of Bangladesh Swechchasebak League Natore wing and the nephew of Natore-2 MP Shafiqul Islam Shimul.
On Wednesday night the party announced his expulsion from the post of general secretary.
On Monday, BWDB executive engineer Abu Raihan was beaten up by and threatened to death by Antar over contractual works (construction).
On Tuesday Police arrested Antar after the executive engineer filed a case.
However, after the attack Abu Raihan feared for his safety and left town.
Meanwhile, Antar’s family members and some people in the area held a press conference at a local restaurant on Wednesday noon demanding his release.
They raised various allegations of irregularities and corruption against executive engineer Abu Raihan but were not able to give explanations.
