A Swechchasebak League leader on Sunday night was hacked to death in Bogura’s Shajahanpur upazila.
The deceased was identified as Shihab Uddin Babu, 35, former social welfare secretary of Shajahanpur upazila Swechchhasebak League and owner of Shahidul Matsya Bhandar in Sabrul Bazar of the upazila.
According to locals, after shopping from Sabrul Bazar, Shihab Uddin Babu was returning home at night. At around 8.30 pm a group of miscreants hacked him with sharp weapon.
Due to excessive bleeding, he died on the spot.
Soon after the incident the people of the bazar shut their shops and left.
Police later recovered the body and sent it to the morgue. Shahjahanpur police sub-inspector Abdur Razzak said police had been deployed in the Sabrul Bazar area.
Bogra Sadar Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Faisal Mahmud said the body was sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. An investigation was underway in this regard.
