SUST students continue agitation against sexual harassment

The students of Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) have been continuing their agitation to press home their 3-point demand against sexual harassment.
 They formed a human chain in front of the central library building yet again on Tuesday. Also, they have threatened to arrange a mass signing campaign yesterday to press home their demands.
 According to sources, a human chain was formed demanding suspension of Abu Saleh, a class four employee, Assistant Administrative Officer Atikur Rahman and removal of Associate Prof of department of Public Administration Anwara Begum from her post and to dismiss Assistant Prof Nasir Uddin permanently. The residential students of Jahanara Emam Hall and Begum Serajunnesa Chowdhury Hall in cooperation with eve teasing and sexual harassment prevention committee of SUST unit organised the programme. Around 400 students of different departments of the university took part in the programme and raised their voices against sexual harassment. Later, the students staged demonstration on the campus that paraded the whole campus and ended in front of the Academic Building ÔD’.It was alleged that a female student of department of Public Administration was harassed sexually by Abu Saleh, an employee of the department on March 30.
JU teachers condole death of ABM Musa

The Vice-Chancellor of the Jahangirnagar University Prof Dr Farzana Islam and Teachers body under the banner of “Banghabandhur Adorso O Muktizudder Chetonay Bissasi Progatishil Shikkhak Samaj” expressed profound shock at the death of veteran journalist ABM Musa. In a message of condolence, signed by JU VC and General Secretary of the teachers’ platform Prof Amir Hussain recalled his contribution to the country’s revolution in the field of journalism. They also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. Born in Feni, in 1931, Musa was elected an MP in the first national election of independent Bangladesh.

Musa was director general of the Bangladesh Press Institute from 1981 to 1985, and general manager and chief editor of the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha from 1985 to 1987.
