SUST student harassed sexually

SUST authorities have suspended a student accused of sexually harassing a female student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. The accused Sumon Das is a student of the 2017-18 session of the Public Administration Department of University.
This information was confirmed by the Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed on Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier on Monday (July 12), the victim lodged a written complaint with the university administration against the student.
The victim said that on Monday afternoon, on her way back from tuition in Bagbari area of Sylhet city, Sumon Das blocked her way and started behaving rudely.
At one point, when I got into the CNG autorickshaw to return home, he forcibly got into the same car and started touching my body.
At this point I started shouting and told the CNG driver to get the accused out of the car. I later lodged a written complaint with the Proctor.
SUST Acting Proctor Abu Hena Pahil said, “We have found the initial truth of the incident by investigating the victim’s allegations.”
The accused student himself has been the victim of this incident.
SUST vice-chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed said, “We have suspended the accused student and his ongoing tests and results have been postponed”. The incident has been sent to the university’s anti-sexual harassment cell for further investigation.
“We have adopted a zero tolerance policy against sexual harassment,” he said. Teachers and students who commit this crime will not be exempted.
