The Senior Special Judge’s Court of Dhaka yesterday sent suspended DIG Mizanur Rahman to the jail rejecting his bail prayer in a graft case.
Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the court passed the order after Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Monjur Morshed, who is also the Investigation Officer of the case, produced Mizan in the court in the morning. The hearing of the crowded court continued for about an hour. The court fixed July 24 for next hearing in the case.
Earlier, on Monday the High Court bench led by Justice Obaidul Hassan sent Mizan to the police after he appeared there for bail in the graft case and also directed the DMP to produce him in the trial court within 24 hours. Later, the suspended police official was taken to Shahbagh Police Station. He passed the night there.
On June 24, the ACC filed the case with the District Office in the city against Mizan, his wife Sohelia Anar Ratna and nephew Mahmudul Hasan, a Sub-Inspector of Police, on charges of amassing Tk 3.28 crore beyond known source of income.
Meanwhile, it has been seen on television that Mizan confessed to giving bribe to an ACC official.
The High Court bench summarily rejected another anticipatory bail petition of the suspended DIG’s relative, Mahmudul Hasan in connection with the same case and directed him to surrender in the trial court within 72 hours.
