Suranjit cremated at his village home in Sunamganj

Veteran parliamentarian and Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta, who breathed his last yesterday at the age of 72, cremated at his village home at Anwarpur under Derai upazila of the district yesterday evening.
He cremated with the wood of Chandan tree that
he himself planted. Chandan tree is considered as holy tree in the Hindu mythology.
“Suranjit Sengupta himself planted the sapling of Chandan tree on the premises of his residence around 14-15 years ago. He used to nurture the tree whenever he went to his home,” Surnajit’s business manager Sujit Roy told BSS.
Our Sunamganj correspondent reports: Derai Upazila Awami League announced three-day mourning at the death of the legendary leader hailed from the district.
Earlier in the morning yesterday, prayers were offered at Jagannath temple at Derai seeking salvation of the departed soul.
His body was brought at his constituency Salla under Sunamganj at about 2 pm to allow the people to pay their last tributes to their beloved leader.
