LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said his ministry would provide support to Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) for the wellbeing of family members of deceased journalists.
“If the ministry has any scope, I will support journalists for their welfare,” he said this on Saturday while speaking as the chief guest at Sagor-Runi auditorium of the DRU in the city.
The DRU arranged an education allowance distribution ceremony for family members of deceased journalists with its president Shakhawat Hossain Badsha in the chair. The Executive Director of Pariprekhhit, Syed Borhan Kabir, delivered speech as the special guest.
The minister suggested the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity authorities to form a welfare fund for its deceased family members.
The DRU gave scholarship to 12 families of the deceased journalists of Taka 1,000 for each month as education allowance.
DRU general secretary Elias Hossain gave address of welcome, while welfare secretary Shahnaz Sharmin conducted the function.
