‘Supply of safe foods crucial for building healthier nation

Engaging comprehensive efforts of all concerned have become a crucial to ensure strict enforcement of the Safe Food Act, 2013 and supply of pure, hygienic and safe foods for building a healthier nation.
The observation came at a seminar on ‘Food Security’ arranged at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in Nilphamari district town on Monday abiding by the health directives during the Mujib Barsho.
The Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) and Nilphamari district administration jointly organised the seminar for officials of the departments concerned, Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) and civil society members.
Chairman of BFSA Md. Abdul Kayowm Sarker attended the seminar virtually as the chief guest with Nilphamari Deputy Commissioner Md. Hafizur Rahman Chowdhury in the chair.
Director of BFSA Dr. Sahadev Chandra Saha and Nilphamari District Council Chairman freedom fighter Md. Joynal Abedin were present as special guests.
Acting Principal of Nilphamari Government College Professor Md. Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Obaidur Rahman Mandal, District Livestock Officer Dr. Monakka Ali, Acting District Food Officer Nazmul Haque Bhuiyan, District Officer of BFSA Joy Chandra Roy and President of Nilphamari District unit of CAB Mostafizar Rahman Dulal, addressed.
The speakers said strict enforcement of the Safe Food Act, 2013, Consumers’ Right Protection Act 2009 and Fish Feed and Animal Feed Act 2010 has become very important to ensure supply of pure and safe foods to common consumers.
They said the BFSA and other authorities concerned are implementing comprehensive programmes and conducting mobile courts for cleanliness at hotels, restaurants, hats and bazaars to attain the goals.
The chief guest said Bangladesh is now self-sufficient in food and common people have no worries about food.
“Now we need to be more aware of the quality and safety of food to ensure safe food for all to take the country ahead by continuing the trend of improving the health and living standard of the people,” he said.
He called upon consumers, food traders and all concerned to come forward with a cooperative attitude for ensuring strict enforcement of the Safe Food Act, 2013 and other related laws to ensure supply of pure and safe foods.
