Super Specialised Hospital at BSMMU planned

M M Jasim :The government plans to build a 700-bed Super Specialised Hospital on the premises of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medial University (BSMMU) soon, BSMMU sources said. It will be a public hospital. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the BSMMU and the Exim Bank of South Korea in this regard recently. Sources said that the construction work would start next year. It will be one of the best hospitals in Asia. Specialists and doctors from home and abroad will be recruited in order to provide better treatment. BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Pran Gopal Dutta told The New Nation that the Super-Specialised Hospital would be a public hospital, and the treatment cost would be reasonable, comparing with other private hospitals. “A number of foreign doctors, mostly from South Korea, will also take care of patients,” Pran Gopal Dutta. “The BSMMU authorities will supervise the activities of the hospital. Standard research of various aspects will be done here. The BSMMU will also be benefited if the hospital is built,” he said.  “The hospital will be constructed on a 12 bigha of land behind the BSMMU. The Exim Bank will provide a loan amounting to Taka 1000 crore for the hospital project,” Pran Gopal Datta.He said, government will pay back the loan within next 40 years from its own sources and from the income of the hospital. The rate of interest of the soft loan will be 0.7 percent.The super specialised and multi-disciplinary hospital will have 18 specialised centres, and modern treatment facilities. The 18 centres include liver, gall bladder and pancreas, organ transplant, cancer, maternal and child healthcare, dental, cardiovascular and neurosurgery, communicable disease, endocrinology and diabetes, gastroenterology, respiratory, geriatric, joint and spine cord, heart, burn injury, health screening, emergency medical, ambulatory surgery and kidney machine (hemodialysis centre).Professor Dutta said that the major objectives of this hospital would be ensuring modern health services to people, giving physicians’ necessary trainings and providing research facilities in the area of bio-medical.The new hospital will have separate name, which will be decided later, Professor Dutta, the leading ENT specialist of the country said.The BSMMU is now providing health services and higher medical education apart from arranging trainings and researches through its 42 departments and a 1500-bed hospital.
