Sumon’s four decades in acting, two eras in direction

Jahangir Alam Sumon is a freedom-fighter, actor, drama director and filmmaker. He was popularly known to the viewers of 80s. In the beginning of 80s, besides working with Al Mansur as his assistant producer, he also acted. In 1983, he started acting as enlisted actor of BTV.
He came into limelight to act in BTV’s drama Jekhane Dekhibe Chhai. Later, he acted in Anowara, Ami Tumi Se and Humayun Ahmed’s dramas and got popularity among the viewers.
Though he acted Sumon had interest to give direction because he worked with Abdullah Al Mamun, Sheikh Riazuddin Badshah, Mostafizur Rahman, Mostafa Kamal Syed, among others in BTV. He got inspiration to make dramas from them. For this reason, he got the opportunity to make the sixth package drama in 1996. Kothai Je Chhaya Sokhi was his directed first drama where late Mita Nur and Mahfuz Ahmed acted. Selina Rahman wrote story of this drama. Later, he made more dramas like Hridoyer Canvas, Ek Jonome, etc. He also got appreciation to make dramas which stories were based on literature. Sarat Chandra’s Grihodaho, Boikunther Will, Dena Pawna, Rajlokkhi Srikanta, Rabindranath Tagore’s Korunamoyee and others which brought him into discussion.
Hailed from Tangail, Sumon said that in the beginning of this year he has already made a faction drama for Soundtek casting Sumon Niloy and Tasnuva Tisha where Ahmed Rizvi worked as executive producer. Sona Bondhu was his directed only movie. He lost his wife in May last year. Now he is passing days lonely. Her elder daughter Dr Chaity is staying in New Zealand and younger daughter Dr Jyoti is residing in London now.
