The government has decided to appoint Md. Sufiur Rahman, currently serving as High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, as the new Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
A career diplomat, Rahman belongs to the 9th batch of BCS (Foreign Affairs) Cadre, a foreign ministry release said here on Tuesday.
In his distinguished diplomatic career besides his High Commissionership in Colombo, he served in Bangladesh High Commission, New Delhi and Islamabad and in Bangladesh Permanent Mission to UN, Geneva in various capacities.
He also served in the SAARC Secretariat as a Director.
Md. Sufiur Rahman graduated in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Dhaka and also holds an MBA from IBA, Dhaka University. He is married and has two daughters and a son.
