Substandard Iftar items on sale in Sylhet

Local traders and street vendors are selling substandard Iftar items in the markets in Sylhet district due to lax monitoring by the authorities concerned.
Vendors and local eateries are selling the foods at different intersections in the town and doing brisk business from sale of their items.
The foods are substandard as those are made using toxic dye and other materials harmful for human health.
With the beginning of Ramadan, the roads and pavements of the town and different upazila headquarters have gone under the occupation of the vendors selling various iftar items.
Sale reaches peak just before iftar, the time of breaking the fast.
These foods are made with low quality ingredients, including artificial food dyes, and sold in an unhygienic environment too. The traders sell different kinds of seasonal fruits, including mango tainted with formalin. Some buyers alleged that most of the roadside vendors are selling substandard ifter items at high prices.
It is alleged that some traders are using impure and adulterated soybean oil detrimental to human health.
Local physicians alleged that the iftar items are being made with adulterated and substandard raw materials and artificial color harmful for human health.
