Defamation case against Tarique: Submission of probe report on Nov-5

A Dhaka court yesterday (Thursday) fixed November 5 for submission of a probe report about BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman, the party’s Foreign Affairs Secretary Jahid F Sardar Saadi and 500 others for making defamatory remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Magistrate Md Ataul Haque of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka fixed the new date on Thursday after the Paltan Model Police Station failed to submit the report in the court.
On March 23, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Projonmo President Fazlul Karim Arif Patwari filed the case with the CMM Court of Dhaka against Tarique and Jahid. The complaint was lodged under Sections 499 and 500 of the Penal Code and Sections 57(1) and 57(2) of the Information and Communication Technology Act.
Hearing the charges, Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Yunus Khan directed the Paltan Model Police Station to investigate the matter and submit a report.
The record of the defamation case that Tarique and Jahid demeaned Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, calling him a friend of Pakistan.
While addressing a programme in London on December 15, last year, Tarique allegedly called Bangabandhu a “Razakar,” a term used for those who collaborated with the Pakistan military during the Liberation War of 1971.
