Court Correspondent :
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka on Tuesday again deferred the submission of the investigation report in the case filed on charge of the sensational murders of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
With this, the deadline of submission has been rescheduled 51 times. As the probe report was not submitted yesterday, Metropolitan Magistrate Mazharul Haque fixed February 1, 2018 as the next date for submission of the investigatlion report. The report submission date was deferred 50 times in the last five years after the sensational murder. The country’s elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) could not submit the report so far.
Maasranga Television News Editor Sagar Sarowar and his wife ATN Bangla Senior Reporter Meherun Runi were found dead in their apartment in the city’s West Rajabazar area on February 11, 2012. Later, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station had launched investigation and the case was transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of police.
On April 18, 2012, the High Court Division of the Supreme Court transferred the case to the RAB for investigation as the DB could not find out the clue of the murder.
At least eight people including the couple’s ‘family friend’ Tanveer Rahman were arrested in connection with the murder. Tanveer was released on bail later, but the others are still in the jail custody.
