Manzoor murder: Submission of more probe report Nov 12

A Dhaka court yesterday (Thursday) fixed November 12 for submission of the further investigation report for the last time in the Manzoor murder case.
Judge SM Saiful Islam of Dhaka’s First Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court set the new date as the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, on behalf of the Criminal Investigation Department, did not submit the report yesterday. Earlier, on May 14, the same court allowed the IO to submit the report on August 13.
On February 10, last year, the verdict of the case was scheduled to be pronounced, but the then
 newly appointed judge of the court, Khandaker Hasan M Firoz, decided for fresh hearing of the case.
On February 28, 1995, after 14 years of the murder, the deceased’s elder brother Advocate Abul Mansur Ahmed filed the murder case with Panchlaish Police Station of Chittagong port city. General Manzoor was taken to Chittagong Cantonment from the police custody and was killed there on June 1, 1981.
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad and also a Special Envoy to the Prime Minister, is the main accused in the case. Other accused persons are retired Major Kazi Emdadul Haque and Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Mostafa Kamal Bhuiyan. However, as per High Court order, the trial proceedings of the case against Major General (Retired) Abdul Latif and Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Shamsur Rahman Shams remained suspended.
