Subir Nandi, Farhana Kanta at Pran-er Khela

Raga-based Bengali songs are a priceless creation of the musical culture in Bangladesh. To raise this rich trend temerged from the combination of classical forms and pro-poetry music composition, Bengal Foundation organised a musical soiree featuring songs at Pran-er Khela performed by renowned artiste Subir Nandi and Bengal Bikash Protibha artiste Farhana Kanta at Bengal Shilpalaya in the city’s Dhanmondi area recently.
Farhana Kanta set off the event with a Basudev Ghosal song Jamini Hobey ki bhor. Her repertoire also included a Begum Akhtar classic Joshona korechhey adi, Bini sutoy gantha mala and Jamuna ki boltey parey, originally recorded by Shipra Basu and a Manabendra Mukherjee record song Dol-e dodul dol-e dolona.
Subir Nandi performed songs originally composed by Kazi Nazrul Islam, DL Roy, Sujeyo Shyam, Khandakar Nurul Alam and one of his own. He started off with Nazrul songs – Kotha kou, Bhoriya poran shunitechhi gaan and Shaon-o raat-ey jodi. He later presented Oi moha Sindhur opar thekey, Ki je byatha bajey, Paharer kanna dekhe and more.
Subir Nandi and Farhana Kanta were accompanied by Iftekhar Alam and Bishwajit Sarkar on tabla, Binod Roy on keyboard, Monwar Hossain Tutul on guitar and Bidyut Roy on percussion in the programme.
Director General of Bengal Foundation Luva Nahid Choudhury hosted the musical soiree.
