Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique has urged the students of Botany to work together to counter negative impacts of global climate change.
The Vice-Chancellor was addressing as chief guest at the freshers’ reception and graduation ceremony of the Department of Botany of DU on Sunday at the Departmental Auditorium.
Chairman of the Department of Botany Prof Dr Moniruzzaman Khondker presided over the function while Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Nasreen Ahmad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Shahid Akhtar Hossain and Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof Dr Md. Imdadul Hoque addressed as special guests. Prof Dr Abdul Aziz delivered welcome speech.
Prof Arefin Siddique in his speech said that Botany is an inseparable part of Nature. Students of Botany have to play important role to introduce natural diversity of the world to common people. He accused the unfriendly attitude and behavior of human being to Nature which is mainly responsible for climate change. The VC urged the students to work for creating awareness among the people in this regard. He further said that students have to work for human development and social welfare of the nation.
Later, the Vice-Chancellor distributed certificates and blazer to the winners of the Department of Botany in the Inter-Department Football Competition of the University.
