Several hundred students in different educational institutions of Sadar upazila are being trapped into taking an examination in the name of second model test arranged by Shariatpur Sadar Upazila Teachers Association.
Students alleged that local teachers under the teachers association have taken a new strategy to make a fast buck by forcing them into appearing at the examination, in a flagrant disregard for the government rules.
The examination that started at some 20 high schools in the upazila on September 14 simultaneously will end on September 21.
Students of class VI, VII and IX in the 20 schools are taking the examination with similar questions in the name of second model test.
The students also said the government has introduced two systems of examinations-semi-final and final-in all schools across the country but they are being compelled to take part in the second model test as well as semi-final and final examinations.
The teachers are killing students’ time by arranging unnecessary tests as they are forced to take preparation for the second model test before their semi-final examination ends, they observed.
Principal of Domsar Jagad Chandra Institution and College Abdul Khalek said the second model test was being held at all high schools in the upazila with similar question papers after discussing with the Upazila Teachers Association.
The examination will create enthusiasm amid students for lessons, he said. The Shariatpur Sadar Upazila Teacher’s Association president declined to make any comment, saying, “There is nothing to say in this regard.”
Sadar Upazila Education Officer M Zakir Hossain said, “We didn’t get any directive from the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board for arranging any examination like second model test. We will talk to the authorities of the teachers’ association and the headmasters of the schools concerned and ask the high officials to take necessary steps in this regard”.
Shariatpur secondary education officer Nalini Ranjan said, “I have no information about the second model test. I will take necessary steps after learning it through the upazila education officers.”
