Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said all the students of primary and secondary grades across the country will receive new set of textbooks on Jan 1, the very first day of the new academic session.
“There are some vested quarters trying to spread rumors about distributing books and trying to mislead the students and parents, but the government is all set to distribute free textbooks on January 1, 2016 amid festivity,” he said.
He said this on Tuesday while speaking as the chief guest at a reception to the meritorious students, who got grade point average (GPA) -5 in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Dakhil Examination in the year 2015 at National Museum Auditorium in city’s Shahbag area.
Bishwabiddalaya Porikroma organised the programme with its Chief Editor in the chair.
Vice- Chancellor of Jagannath University Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman, UCC Group Chairman MA Halim Patwary, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank Abu Hena
Mohammad Razi Hasan spoke among others. The education minister blamed BNP-Jamaat-led 20-party alliance for the fall in the success rate and poor results of the examinations as its destructive activities-hartals and blockades, had adverse impact on the examinees.
Claiming the standard of education is gradually improving, the minister said, “Our children are acquiring more knowledge on different disciplines of education as they are given various facilities.”
A total of 42,894 candidates bagged GPA-5 in the HSC and equivalent
