The government will provide technical training to the final year students of polytechnic institutes in collaboration with South Korean multinational company, Samsung Electronics for developing them as entrepreneurs and to create self-employment.
As part of its plan, the Education Ministry launched an Advanced Repair and Industrial Skills Enhancement (ARISE) training saturday at a centre set up by Samsung Electronics in city’s Dhaka Polytechnic Institute.
“Such centres for launching ARISE training will be established in other Polytechnic Institutes of the country in phases aiming to provide training to final year students at first,” Education Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam Khan told the function organized by Dhaka Polytechnic Institute at its auditorium.
He said Samsung Electronics will conduct the ARISE training for a certain period and develop master trainers from the teachers who will provide similar training to other centres to be set up in future.
After completing training, the students would be encouraged to become manufacturers and to develop themselves as entrepreneurs, Khan said.
He said the government has set a target to increase enrolment in technical education up to 20 percent by 2020 from the present 8 percent. Besides, a number of steps including setting up of 100 new polytechnic institutes and a women polytechnic institute have been taken to achieve the target.
Lee Yun-yong said the Korean government will continue its support and cooperation to Bangladesh for becoming a technologically advanced country.
Chaired by Director of Directorate of Technical Education Shaikh Alamgir Hossain, the function was addressed, among others, by Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Lee Yun-yong and Country Manager of Samsung Electronics Choon Soo Moon.
