Students, teachers to work together for a clean city

 The students and teachers of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Govt. Girls’ High School expressed their willingness to work together to make the Dhaka city livable by keeping it neat and clean. They made such commitments while participating in an oath taking and a discussion session, jointly organized by LIFE, a non- government organization, City Corporation Shamajik Shangskritik Forum (CCSSF) and ATN Bangla as part of their ongoing ‘Clean Dhaka Campaign-2014’ programme, on Wednesday, says a press release.
Nawzish Ali Khan, Advisor (Programme), ATN Bangla, attended the event as chief guest while Shafiqul Islam Bulbul, President of CCSSF, presided over it. Kamrul Islam Sony, executive director of LIFE, Akhter Hossain, co-chairman of Children’s Voice, Nazmun Nahar Shaheen,headmistress of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Govt. Girls’ High School,Muhammad Aamirul Islam, director (programme) of LIFE and Advocate Abdul Kader, secretary general of CCSSF, were present at the programme.
Nawazish Ali Khan urged all to refrain from throwing solid waste to grounds, fields, rivers, drains, ponds and keep their own home, institution, school, college, office clean to ensure a safe environment for all.
Shafiqul Islam Bulbul said, “If every mother teaches her child on cleanliness during childhood, it would be more effective for keeping the city clean”.
Kamrul Islam Sony said four things will have to be focused to keep the city clean. The authorities must procure modern equipments and recruit more manpower, make the citizens aware about cleanliness and implement the existing law properly, he added.
“If we can do these things, we strongly believe that we will be able to make our city livable place,” he added.
Akter Hossain stressed the need for changing attitude of city dwellers to keep the city clean.
Nazmun Nahar, Headmistress of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Govt. Girls’ School, said cleanliness programme must start from home because keeping the city clean is everybody’s job.
Muhammad Aamirul Islam said that besides general people, waste pickers, businessmen of fruits/vegetables/fishes/chickens and the hawkers must bring under comprehensive awareness, orientation and training programme.
