Students attending classes in dilapidated high school amid risk in Dumuria

Students of Chuknaor Girls’ High School in Dumuria upazila of Khulna district are attending classes amid risk as the school building is a dilapidated one. Cracks have developed on the ceiling and at different parts of the school building. The school authorities and students are in great anxiety as the school building may collapse at any moment for which accident might be occurred.
Concerned sources said, Chuknagor Girls’ High School is located at Atlia Union of Chuknagor Sadar in Dumuria upazila where around 500 girl-students are studying. But only eight classrooms are available here which is insufficient in comparison with the demand. Besides, classrooms of this school are used as public examination center for JSC and SSC examinations. The school authorities opined that this risky school buildings need be declared as abandoned at this moment and new building is essential for fulfillment of the target of women education.
On a recent visit, this Correspondent found the dilapidated condition of the school, cracked developed at different parts of the school building. The school has become unusable.
Minoti Kudu, headmistress of the school said, crack developed in the school building for about 2 years for which it has become unusable for conducting classes, as such teaching are being hampered badly.
Prohllad Brommo, President of the school managing committee said, we have applied for increasing classrooms. we sought for taking immediate steps to the concerned high authorities for the allocation fund in order to build a new school building due to shortage of classrooms as our students are attending classes in the dilapidated risky building, Prohllad Brammo added Sheikh Firoj Ahmed, Dumuria Upazila secondary education officer said, during monthly Upazila development meeting a proposal was adopted for the renovation of the risky high school building.
Rezaul Islam, Executive Engineer of Khulna region of the directorate of secondary education admitted the matter of the risky building and said that he had visited the school and submitted a report in this regard to the ministry of education, but no response was yet gotten from the ministry.
