A schoolboy named Shanto Hasan was killed in a tragic road crash when a private car rammed him on the ECB premises in Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday night.
Meanwhile, guilty driver of the private car Shakil was arrested from city’s Uttara on Friday morning.
According to locals, victim Shanto Hasan, son of one Mostafa Kamal from Manikdi area of the capital, was a student of class X of Adamji Cantonment Public School.
Shanto’s friend Adnan said that Shanto was going through the premises of ECB as he was supposed to meet with his friends. When he was crossing the road, a speeding private car pushed him from behind. He fell on the ground on the spot. He was rushed to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Officer-in-Charge of Cantonment Police Station Kazi Shahan Haque Confirmed the matter to the media saying that a private car at first pushed a man ahead of the Kalshi flyover on Thursday night and the driver tried to flee when the people chased the private car. At one stage the private car crushed Shanto who was standing there. Shanto was killed on the spot. The locals then seized the private car, but the driver escaped, OC added.
After the incident, victim friends gathered on the ECB premises at night to demand justice for Shant’s death.
Then the agitated students closed the surrounding roads and chanted various slogans. This caused long traffic jams in Matikata, ECB and Kalshi areas.
The victim’s father Mostafa Kamal filed case as a plaintiff. Detained private car driver Shakil has been shown arrested in the case.
