Police arrested a university student along with 32 gold bars, each weighing 10 tolas from a bus in Chhagalnaiya
upazila on Friday noon.
The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Morshed, a final year student of Chittagong branch of Southern University and son of Abul Kashem of Uttar Dolan village in Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong.
Police said, they had information that a consignment of Yaba tablets would be sent to Dhaka from Chittagong by a bus. Following the information, the law enforcers set up a check post at Nijkunjara.
As a ‘Saudi Paribahan’ bus approached the check post, police launched a drive at the vehicle. While searching passengers of the bus, they found 32 gold bars, worth Tk 1.30 crore, hidden inside the body of Morshed.
During preliminary investigation, Morshed said one Zafar offered him to reach the gold bars to Dhaka in exchange for Tk 6,500.
