Police on Saturday recovered the body of a college student from the Meghna River seven days after he had gone missing falling from a launch of Dhaka-Barishal river route.
The body of Mehedi Hasan Babu, 19, was recovered from the Meghna River at Bhashan Char in between Hijla and Mehendiganj upazilas in the afternoon.
Babu, son of expatriate Abdul Halim Biswas of Shikarpur Mundopasha village of Ujirpur upazila, used to live with his mother at a rented house at Uttara in the capital.
Nazmul Haque Munna, uncle of the deceased, said Babu was coming to his grandfather’s house with his mother in a launch on Saturday last but he went missing from the launch at night.
Being informed by locals, police recovered the body today, he said.
Thr body was sent to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
